Aldo Giannotti solo show in Viena: "Italian Square" at das weisse haus

"Three influential people from the Viennese art scene were paid by me to speak highly of this exhibition for its entire duration" is the first message communicated by the artist Aldo Giannotti at the entrance of the exhibition. An artist's confession? A public outing? or a critique of the institution in the realm of conceptual art's legacy. Maybe. But maybe Aldo Giannotti wants to present us just a matter of fact: he paid someone to speak highly about his show. Information deprived of any judgement revealing a (legal?) business relationship. The frameworks of economy regulating many spheres of everyday life-among them the art world-are used as a device to blur the borders between right and wrong conventions. it is through such a simple and clear formulation of the sentence that the artist is able to introduce the suspicion in our perception of the show: he changes our relationship with the others and our reliance in people's opinion.
